A Craftsman Kitchen by Jessica Miller

Our historic home in Sherman Hill was built in 1880 and came equipped with a 5 by 5’ kitchen —teeny tiny. At some point the main kitchen was located outside the home which is now our neighbor’s garage about 20 yards away. The internal “prep” kitchen was virtually left untouched besides some cosmetics for the past 139 years so it was time for a big change.

We removed the built-in hutch, removed the wall, moved the back door over a few inches (every inch counted in this small space), moved plumbing, added can lights, new cabinetry, flooring and appliances. It’s still small but way more functional with the peninsula.

The original kitchen was so small it made it tough to even get before photos but check out what I got below. Shopping list provided below as well. Enjoy :)

TOP 18 in 2018 by Jessica Miller

Well, I think it’s safe to say 2018 was successful! I just counted and recounted (because I didn’t believe my math) the number of stages last year and I came up with 125?! How is this even possible? Last year was 52 and the year before that was 35! Holy moly, that is a 140% increase from last year! I even had 30 staging consultations, 15 flips and 10 interior design clients mixed in. I can’t thank my clients enough- agents, investors, homeowners. corporations and agencies. Thank you for trusting me with your homes, projects and designs. I brought on a full-time assistant, leased a 2,000 sqft warehouse and Sprinter van to make job run as smooth as possible. So far so good :)

Here’s my top 18 stages of 2018. I wish I could share my commercial work with Pella Corportation but it won’t be out til early 2019. Thanks for everything! Can’t wait to see what 2019 brings!

Best,

Jess

2104 SW WOODSIDE CT ANKENY by Jessica Miller

Exceptionally rare find in Ankeny - a nature's retreat!  Loved every second of walking through this thoughtfully designed home.  So unique and beautiful. I was asked to stage this gem last Spring and when I finally heard it was ready for me last month I could not wait to get my hands on it.  All the dark furniture was not helping showcase the beautiful wood and stone work so I knew exactly what to do.  Check out the before and afters!

Home Sweet Home by Jessica Miller

Well the last seven months around the Miller/Lemmo home has been eventful to say the very least. Last Fall, when we found out I was pregnant we dove head first into home renovations.  Luckily for me, Tony (my partner) is hybrid between Martha Stewart and Bob Villa.  And luckily for him, I am really talented general contractor i.e. - picking out interior finishes, furniture and decor.  Here's an overall view of everything that has been completed thus far in our 66 year old Waveland Woods home. Stay tuned for room by room details with progress photos and details of what was used and where we found it.

1764 NW 121st Circle by Jessica Miller

What do you do with a giant classic colonial that has been on the market for over 90 days? I get asked this question a lot by realtors and/or homeowners.  My first two questions are always "What feedback are you getting? And when can I see the home?"

This particular home has great bones, super spacious with a pretty open layout (for a home built in 1999) and has been freshly painted. It was struggling with cleanliness, left behind items and a massive feeling of unimpressive emptiness.

I offered to remove dated blue couches and items that no longer belonged in the home (when you see the photos you'll get it) and then stage the dining, living room, kitchen and master bedroom. Fingers crossed this home will now get the attention it deserves.

Impressive Kitchen Flip - 4120 Muskogee Ave by Jessica Miller

When a lime green kitchen gets flipped and reversed to maximize every inch of the space. Check out the impressive makeover below.

4327 Greenwood Drive by Jessica Miller

The renovation of this super-sized, South of Grand Tudor home began last Fall . This home has only had one other owner since 1927 which is super impressive nowadays. Fortunately, she had great bones but needed some major modernizing love.  Five months later, we are pleased to put her back on the Des Moines' market.

As you will notice in the picture below the kitchen was the biggest overhaul.  Unfortunately, I was unable to get a before demo photo but let's just say it was very sad and drab. We added a breakfast bar/serving area to bring in more natural light. Installed glass cabinetry and picked clean, bright finishes to make the previously closed and dark space feel more spacious and bright.

The rest of the house just needed gallons of paint, new flooring, lighting and a bunch of other stuff that was too boring/frustrating to document.  This Tudor was a total labor of love and I can't wait til a lucky family gets to make it their home.

4941 Urbandale Ave Transformation by Jessica Miller

I started teaming up with the talented Rally Cap Properties team late last Summer.  Since then, I've staged a handful of their properties around Des Moines. I am always super impressed with their professionalism, talent and visions for each home.  Recently, they asked me if I would be interested in leading the design process and stage an upcoming flip in Beaverdale. Of course, I agreed! Check out how the charming mid-century home transformed below.
